Which harddrive should I get?

Okay i'm buying a laptop and zi have to pick between 8 gigs of ram and either a 750 gig hdd harddrive or the 250 gig solid state drive. now this computer will be used mainly for gaming. i heard ssd's don't last very long if used a lot. i plan on using this computer for long period very often. i was wondering which would be a more secure choice. even though its a laptop it won't be moved too often just to different classes I have to take notes in so the whole ssd can take more ruff toss and stuff isn't a big factor to me. i just want to know for gaming which would last longer? also as a side note I know ssd's are quicker than hdd's but is the difference really hugely noticable or is it just by like seconds? i dunno if the cpu plays a factor in speeds and reliability of the harddrive but if it helps its the 2nd gen i7 with 2.9 ghtz? overclocked at 3.4.
