Are you in college? If so, take out student loans to pay for it. It will be so worth it. I've been to Italy before, and $2000 is a very reasonable price! I payed a whole lot more than that. You absolutely have to take advantage of it. And you're right, it's best to take trips like this when you're young. It will be harder to take off later on when you have a full time job and a family. If you can't get loans, you need to talk to your mom about borrowing the money and agree to a payment plan - agree to pay her back a set amount (whatever you can afford) every month.
